A new law going into effect Saturday will make it easier for people in Mississippi to defend themselves against intruders.

A home invasion can be one of the most terrifying experiences of a lifetime. Starting this Saturday Mississippians will have more legal protection when defending themselves against intruders. A law passed this March assumes that a person using self defense against an intruder is acting properly, even when that self defense includes deadly force.

"A man is king in his own castle. It refines and expands, to some degree, the rights of a homeowner to use deadly force in his own home without the fear of prosecution," said Mississippi Rep. Greg Snowden of the law in March of 2006. ..... Read More

     
Woman Attacked and Dragged

A woman claims she was robbed, assaulted and dragged down the street by men in a moving car, and Wednesday, those attackers were still on the loose, News 4 WOAI learned. Angelina Gomez told News 4 WOAI four men attempted to kidnap her from her yard on Galye St. on the southeast side.  “I'm so lucky because I could have not been here,” Gomez said. “I don't know like what would have happened.”   Gomez is just five feet tall and 85 pounds.   “I just screamed the whole time,” Gomez said.

Deputies Looking For Car Of Woman Attacked In Capitol Forest

OLYMPIA - Thurston County sheriff's deputies are looking for the car belonging to a woman found with head and neck injuries in a remote area of Capitol Forest, southwest of Olympia.

Someone slashed her throat and left her for dead, and now sheriff's deputies are searching for her attacker.

Shawnee Residents Alerted After Woman Attacked

Police: Naked Man Assaults Sleeping Woman

There are still no arrests in the case of a naked man assaulting a sleeping woman early Saturday morning.  

However, managers at the Retreat of Shawnee apartments are taking action, KMBC's Kris Ketz reported Tuesday.

Residents found notices on their doors alerting them of the attack on West 67th Terrace. Managers said they didn't alert residents earlier because they weren't aware of the assault until Monday.
